At approximately 2:08 PM on Wednesday, April 23rd, the Wallkill Fire Department responded to a request for Mutual Aid from the Shawangunk Valley Fire Department for a reported construction vehicle fire at the Shawangunk Highway Department yard on Kings Lane off Bruyn Turnpike. The annual statewide ban prohibiting residential brush burning begins tomorrow, March 16th and runs through Wednesday, May 14th. Since 2009, the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation has enforced the annual brush burning ban to prevent wildfires and protect communities as the weather starts to warm, which can quickly cause wildfire conditions to arise. The burn ban is in effect until March 16th, when the statewide burn ban will go into effect until May 14th 2025.

This burn ban prohibits the starting of outdoor fires statewide for purposes of brush and debris disposal, as well as uncontained campfires, recreational fires and open fires used for cooking, unless otherwise excluded below. This ban shall not apply to:
